    Gel coat detachment

Recently I was told that I have “hull blisters.” After I went to a fiberglass boat repair specialist who has worked years in the bass boat building industry, I was told that I have “gel coat detachment”! He said there was metal flake under the hull’s gel coat, which will not bond. Has anyone else witnessed this? I’m now in the process of getting warranty coverage to get this problem resolved.

Delamination? If it is delaminated there is no metal flake as the only thing under it will be fiberglass cloth and resin.

I hate to break it to you but hull blisters are not covered by your Hull Warranty. If the de-lamination was caused by not repairing them, then your warranty will not cover it.

The flake you “may” see under your solid gel is prolly from where the flake was sprayed on the sides and stripes....overspray. Nothing new about this and is found all the time.

As one of the guys said,, if delaminating, only thing under it is cloth/ mat and resin. All our boats will have flake under the solid color, it’s how they spray the color for the stripes. It’s just another layer of gelcoat
