    1984 astoglass 165v with merc 115 inline

Hey guys, so I pretty much finished my build on this 1984 astroglass 165v, it has a 1984 merc inline 6 115. Picked it up for $400, rebuilt the floor, rewired front to back, rebuilt carbs and fuel pump, new carpet and new seats, buddy gave me a minn kota maxxum 65lb 24v trolling motor for it, really all I have left is setup motor height and propping, and then my electronics setup. This is a budget boat. All in so far I'm at $1400, cheap reintro back into fishing for me. So no $500 props for me.

So onto the propping. It has a 19p quicksilver stainless 48 66138A4 19P, which is a 13.5 x 19p prop, from my research closest comp is a laser or laser 2

Currently with 2 people, 3 Batts, full fuel and normal tackle and gear I am running right at 6k and 47mph thats trimmed with a rooster tail slightly above the cowl. I am at 6" prop to pad Currently.

I'm thinking I should raise the motor and have my prop reworked to a 21p, hoping I will gain a little speed and keep rpms similar or slightly lower.

I do not have a jackplate, and can raise the motor 1.5" on the transom max, which would make my p2p 4.5". I might pickup a manual jackplate when I can catch a deal.

    Any advice for me?
    Thanks alot guys.

    Consider a 19P Trophy plus.

Ok, ill look into that, see if I can find a deal at some point.
In the meantime is it worthwhile to raise the motor to 4.5"? I haven't seen a single boat on here running 6" p2p. I'm thinking my rpms will raise some when if I raise it right? Then I can bump to a 21. I would like for it to hit 50 with a parter. It will run 50-51 with the 19 by myself but my tach wasn't reading right and I think it was reving higher than it should have. I have since replaced the tach

You may need a jckplate to raise the motor... And a good working water pressure gauge. You cant pitch a 19P to 21... Only 1 pitch.

    I used to own a 1984 1650V ProCraft with a 115 Mariner.

Hmm my local prop shop has done it for us several times. Granted those were aluminum too. I can raise 1.5" now with bolt holes, and I'll be on the lookout for a manual jackplate.

From what I read, that 1650 procraft is a very similar boat. You wouldn't happen to remember where it's top speed was would you?
I think my 47-50 is pretty decent for this older boat and 115 from what I read in the setup section.

I never had a GPS on that boat. So I’d be guessing. The boats are nearly identical

I used to have a '74 Astroglass 16' with a Merc 850 and ran a Merc 19" stainless prop, don't remember the number. I would think a 21 would work good. I got 42 GPS mph.

Thats good to know. I'm going to have the shop add some cup to this prop for a little bite and keep it around, but looking for a 21 after Christmas. I went ahead and raised the motor so I'm at 4.5" prop to pad. Haven't tested yet as its been too cold for boating here.

Well I tested it, and it didn't bite worth a dang.
I took my prop in, they added a bunch of cup, should help bite and bring rpms down some.
I also picked up a 6" Vance manual jackplate. Wondering where I should start P2P, I was at 4.5" before the jackplate and it was too high for the prop. With the added cup I believe it would have been fine. Now with it 6" further back, should be cleaner water. So I'm thinking start with the plate all the way down.
My local prop shop all recommended a laser 2 for my setup
