    60 MPH Tin with a 150hp

Been researching a bunch of boats both fiberglass and aluminum for when I finally pull the trigger.

It looks to me if you want a 60+ MPH boat with a 150hp you need to go fiberglass. It just seems like the tin guys can't do what the fiberglass builders to to get decent speed out of their hulls.

Are there tins out there that will do 60+ MPH with 150 HP?

I think the Ranger, Vexus and Xpress 18-19ft 150 boats will all touch 60 set up right and not carrying the kitchen sink and 2 Bubbas.

Tracker 195 will do it. Just took delivery of a 2021 and it is sweet.

Yep, nearly the same size as a Ranger RT188 but rated for a 150hp. Might upgrade to one of those here in a few years.

I hit 59 with my Ranger 198p. I think Xpress could probably top that but with a 150 don't expect much more!

I rode in an Avid Bay boat that topped 50mph with a Yamaha 150, that was plenty of speed for me in a boat so I ordered mine with a 150.

I have hit 60 with my 198P but that is all I am ever going to get out of it. Runs in the upper 50s easy and that is fine with me.

    I hit 63.5 with a 175 on my xpress x19. You could probably get 60+ on the x18 with a 150.

Xpress is probably the fastest of the aluminum boats.

I have gotten 58.6 with a normal fishing load and 3/4 tank of gas from my 2021 Xpress X 18 with F150 Yamaha, 6"manual jack plate and Power Tech prop that came on the boat. Only had the boat just over a month and only raised the motor once with still room to go up plus its not the SHO 150 which will be faster and there are better props for this boat/motor so 60+ is easily done with the right set up. Several you tube vids with stock 150 motors on 18' Xpress hitting high 60's

I have a 2017 RT198P with a 2 stroke 150 Pro XS and I've been able to get 60 out of it. It normally runs about 58.

I believe Tin boats have their place just as glass boats have theirs.
I have buddies that prefer Tins over glass regardless of price or performance.
I have a few buddies that use their glass boats in such a way, they would do better to have a Tin.

With the cost of ownership of Tin boats continuing to rise (there are some badass premium Tins) the gap in glass costs are closing.
If you want 60+ mph this is also an option. It should bump you into the low 70 mph range, with the 68-69mph being the norm.
Keep in mind this can be had with a 150.
Its all in what a buyer wants from his rig. An 18 footer, with a 175. Padded deck. Good electronics. Ultrex TM. Tandem axle trailer with brakes and more.
Deals like this run close to a Tin. To each his own.

I’m considering 18.5 foot glass or 20 foot aluminum. Both are about the same price. Will go about the same speed. Not sure about the ride differences. But deck size clearly goes to aluminum. I looked at a guys 18.5 glass boat this weekend and the deck was tiny compared to my similar sized tin.

Even in the 19 foot glass, the 20 foot deck space will go to the Aluminums. Though the Vexus and a couple other brands, the area at the TM gets tight.

One of the biggest reasons I went with the RT188 was the size of the front deck. I am not recommending it or its brother ---- I am just commenting on how hugely important the layout of the front deck was for me.

There are days in Florida when I drive the boat 8-10 miles and then put the trolling motor down and use the front deck until I head back to the ramp.... I might idle or cruise to another close spot but 90-95 percent of my time is spent on the front deck ....

MOST of the glass boats and also many of the aluminum boats really narrow toward the front and do not have much room for the front half of the front deck. This is where I stay most of the day and I wanted the best I could get without getting too big of a boat lengthwise.

And actually the Vexus narrows to much in the V shape to suit me.
