    2012 250 SHO

2012 250 SHO with no warranty work done. I know that sounds great, but wouldn't it be better if it had been blown and fixed. Wasn't the 2012-2014 come with lots of major problems. I am on the verge of buying it, but would have rather Yamaha tell me it was one of the early bad ones.

I would strongly encourage you to contact Yamaha to get the motor serial # checked out to see 1. if it has the new powerhead installed and 2. how many hours ago the work was done. The early SHO's (2010-2014) are somewhat notorious for blowing up ... my 2011 blew up even with the new PH work done in 2015. At a minimum have a reputable shop plug it in to see what the computer kicks out.

My motor was a 2010 and lost power head with 111 hrs. New power head was installed 8/12 and a month ago had thrust bearings go bad with 484 total hrs.

Is the serial # a plate or a sticker. Would it look like this, Cannot take a picture but this is what it looks like on the Frame the motor.

Ya But Yamaha tells me that 684C S 417152 is not in their system. To look up and see if this motor was/is on their recall.
    It is a 2011-2012 250hp Sho

A 15MSHW is a 1998 model year motor. Older motors are not all in the existing Yamaha USA system. Presumption being that you talked to someone at Yamaha USA. And that he knew what he was doing when he searched his data base.

All SHO's sold by Yamaha USA will be in the Yamaha USA system. Call Yamaha Canada or other Yamaha distributor and they will have not a clue.

Any motor that has blown and has been replaced with an improved block will be better.

If you want Yamaha to tell you if it was one of the bad ones, why have you not called Yamaha and found out directly from them?

A 2012 VF250LA SHO may or may not be a problematic motor. If it has lasted this long on the original power plant then a presumption might be that it is a good motor.

On the other hand, it is not of the latest design. Improvements have been made after this years model.

Without knowing what motor we are talking about, by engine serial number, it is difficult to give you any meaningful advice.

I didnt leave but forgot about my post. I did call Yamaha. Zero warranty work done on this motor. I bought it and rolled the dice. Might have a shop take a look at the part that was causing the big problems.

If the engine serial was known we could tell you some things about it.

No warranty work done. No open bulletins. No nothing for that motor.

It was earlier year SHO models that had the blocks replaced. Yours should be good to go. Obviously is.
