    2004 Johnson 150

I am running a 2004 Johnson 150 with a 24 raker prop. No jackplate. Is this the best prop for this motor? Hull is a 2004 285 pro xl.

Unable to answer as you did not provide enough information.
what is the engine model number?
what is the Wot rpm and at what trim position?
what is the max top speed?
Raker is a common prop for this type of rig and usually performs well.

I have a 2004 Stratos 285 ProXL which I ran with a 2004 Johnson and 24 Raker. I have a 6” jackplate and ran it at 3 1/4” prop to pad. The Raker was the best prop for me and I had it worked by Mark Croxton. The key is prop to pad distance and absent a jackplate you will struggle to optimize your best performance. I now have a 150 HO G2 on the back and I’m running a 4 blade Trophy Plus at 3 1/8”. You really need to consider a jackplate for your rig.

Thanks for the info. I have considered a jackplate. Right now I'm running 55-58mph at 5500 rpm depending on humidity.

With my 150 Johnson set up on the Raker I could get 62mph GPS in the fall and winter months at 5500 RPM. Summer was 58 on average. But holy Jesus that motor drank gas at wide open throttle. The G2 150 HO is a dream from a fuel and oil consumption perspective.

One of my favorite boats to drive in that size, the other is a Champion 184.

i'd be interested to know roughly the wot difference in consumption for the two motors. that's a nice apples to apples comparison with the same boat and same hp in carb and fuel injection.

you hear a lot about 4000rpm cruising fuel economy advantages from injected motors but i have not heard much about wot difference.

looks like your rig and buccaneer’s rig have a lot in common. Setup is everything and it appears your setup could use some updating and adjustments.

I fished a Javelin 379 in early 90's with a Johnson Fast Strike "Silver Star Series" 150 mounted on a plate 3 1/2" below pad... she was a Rocket Ship with a 24 Raker..., but
I always had a secret crush on the Stratos 285...

My Good friend, and travelling companion run a 285 Pro XL Stratos with basically the same set up, and she also was a Fast B-boat with the 24 Raker. Pretty Boat.. She was like a Gun Metal Silver flake, a true Belle of the Ball.
