I would not rule out a 27 Tempest Plus.

The ratio will be a need to know on the prop.
    On my 20XD with 250XS with 1.62:1 I run a 28 Bravo 1-3/8 inch above pad.
    If you have a 1.62 I would guess a 26 Bravo if a 1.75 a 28 likely would work.

I think the Tempest when run surfacing has a tendency to become "hard of hearing" (sling an ear).

That sportmaster will be a 1.87 or 1.75 since its a 2.5 case. If its a small dia. prop shaft it will be 1.87, if its a fat shaft could be either ratio. It will be stamped on the top but you need to drop the case to see it. You can turn the fly wheel and measure the prop turn too.

You are correct. I slung an ear off of a 27 Tempest fishing prop on my Allison XB 2003 with 225 Pro Max. It had what I would consider a minor rough edge on the blades from an encounter with the bottom. Apparently it was worse than I thought because next thing I knew I had roughly 2 1/2 blades.

I do believe a Trophy is more likely to lose a blade when surfacing.

Did not know the 225X is a 2.5 however I think my advice is valid just substitute the correct ratio.
    1.87 28 pitch
    1.75 26 pitch

did you mean 1.87 26 and 1.75 28 ? I had a combo like that no way you were getting out of the hole with a 28 and live wells full etc , I ran a 26 trophy and it was nothing great out of the hole.

No, the 1.87 is a lower speed gear and will turn a stiffer prop. The OP removed the talons. A 225X should pull a 28 pitch with a 1.86 gear on a boat as light as a 20 foot Bullet.
If you go up to a 1.75 you will likely have to drop to a 26 due to the higher rpm of the prop.
I am turning a 28 Bravo with 1.62 gears in a sporty on a 250XS on a 20XD . When running a surface piercing prop on a light boat everything is a compromise. You can't have a great hole shot and great top end without a hydraulic JP.

The ProMax is a far superior prop compared to the Trophy. I have a 20XD with a 2.5 Offshore and I run a 225 PM powerhead from time to time. The 26 ProMax is for fishing and the 28 is just for a little more top end. The first time I ran it, I got rid of all my Trophys.

The 27 bravo xs is a great fishing prop on that combo. I’m speaking from experience.
The 26 promax will be a little faster and does really good everywhere but hole shot. It’s a little tricky to get right with the 1.87 gear

That makes sense , the trophies do suck they are the worst for getting on plane with the blowing out feathering the gas pedal crap.

I am running a 28 signature eagle on my 20xd 225x now. The best all around was a 28 lightning ET but kept slinging blades.
