Smoked my lower unit last weekend. 1995 115HP Mercury PLEASE HELP

    Hey all,

I am in need of some guidance and/or help on my outboard. I was going down the lake last week and all of a sudden my engine made a loud, nasty sound and immediately went into neutral and shut off. Needless to say when I got back to the dock and got her on the trailer I noticed that knocked a hole in the lower unit casing/gear box. Also, it broke the prop spacer housing and so on and so forth. Obviously I need a new lower unit. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to get a rebuilt or used lower unit?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 32FB1851-A017-48E0-84B5-04C672464A84.jpeg7FB53AAD-D194-4D8E-A737-3B80621A04A1.jpegAE5C466F-AB11-4018-8E77-27BB27D05E69.jpeg2D4289CC-A985-48C3-930B-70725931895A.jpeg8CE1602F-D0D1-4417-BF6F-D2E948E87969.jpeg2D4289CC-A985-48C3-930B-70725931895A.jpeg

For used you might check the swap and sell boards, scroll down on BBC main menu.

Won't be a popular choice but I'd go SEI for a motor that old, just for the warrenty/price. I've had better luck with them than a Mercury factory unit.

Before you think about the aftermarket/chinese gearcases, look at a good USED case. There's a pretty big difference in the machining and tolerances.

You could also contact Sherm @ Sherm's Marine (or our Parts Department) to price an OEM replacement gearcase. Be sure to provide the engine serial number.
