    90 Optimax carbon fiber reeds?

I am considering replaceing the factory reeds on my 2010 90 Optimax with carbon fiber ones. What brand should I go with and how hard is the install?

I put TDR reeds purchased from Don in 3 motors. I would use those again if needed.

How hard are they to install on the 1.5L Optimax motors?

Not hard at all to install. Have to pull the throttle body off the intake and they should be right underneath.

Hardest part is lapping the cages. Of course you can just send the reed cages to Don and he will lap them, install TDR reeds and return them to you. You pay for it of course but it is nice to know it was done correctly.

What does lapping the cages mean?

The reeds need to lie flat on their cages. Reed Cages

Definitely recommend the TDR Reeds. Reed cage lapping is simply a lot of "busy work" (not that difficult, just time consuming).

I was looking at the Chris Carson Marine reeds but may go with the TDR ones if they are better.

Much of the Marine Industry is closed on Monday (one of the reasons we decided years ago to be OPEN on Monday).

Is it normal to have this much oil in the intake?

    ^^^ +1

It would be a big problem if you did NOT have oil in the intake/reed area.

I figured it wasn't a problem, I was just checking.
