Cougar w Bob’s Plate - WOT Sweet Spot

Having a hard time dialing in where the sweet spot on my Cougar is WOT. Hoping some of you guys with more experience with this boat can share some wisdom. Came out of a 96’ Champion 191 200 EFI and this boat is a different animal altogether. I absolutely love it but am curious on the following.

    Running a 2013 Cougar FTD - 250 ProXS - 8 Bob’s Hydraulic Plate - 25P Fury - MercMonitor and Beede Analog Gauges

Wondering the following for optimal performance at WOT
    - Trim
    - Jackplate Setting (0-6)
Also what I should be seeing for:
    - Water Pressure
    - RPMs

I read that bass cats do not need much trim compared to many others

i read they like the motor lower than most

the water pressure will be high since the motor is low probably 25psi

    Ideally 6000

Plates should be low, very low.

Trim is a minimum and you shouldn’t need much.

Your Champion most people run by pressing the trim to the top and using the throttle for speed.

On a Bass Cat you hit the throttle and the trim works like the accelerator.

I always ran my Bobs plate on the Champion all the way down on 0. When I run the plate all the way down on the Cat, I feel like it creates drag and leads to chine. Bumping up to 2 on the plate seems to reduce this but I’m not sure what is optimal and if I’m losing too much water pressure? Hoping someone with the same setup or BCB can offer specifics. For example, 1/4 trim on Gauge, 2 on JP Gauge. I’ve been going off feel so far.

This is a very difficult question to answer. The “sweet spot” can vary a lot depending on the weight in your boat, i.e. tackle, electronics, live well, fuel. It’s gonna take you a bit of seat time to get used to a high performance hull. I run my bobs anywhere from 2.25 to 3.25. Most of the time I run it at 2.75 with a full tournament load. Trim, honestly I don’t look at. It’s more of a feel thing. Just keep your adjustments small until you get used to driving it. You’ll get it! Took me about 20 hours of seat time to adjust from the 2000 jag 225 to the 2020 cougar 250.
