Ran the 23 Tempest Plus, water temp 58F, air temp 45F, full tank of gas, all my gear, empty live wells and me at 205 pounds the best I got was 70.5 mph at 5930 rpm. I like the way the boat handles with the 23. It has more lift than the 22.

Dave, I would say those are pretty much spot on with what I am experiencing. I weigh right at 200 pounds. I don’t have a accurate RPM gauge but performance is very similar. What is your PTP? I think I may have to lower mine a bit from 2.5 inches....

I still think in the tempest line the 22 is best for summer and the 23 for winter. I wish someone had a 24 bravo they would let me try. I’m not buying another prop unless I trash one of these.

I only have one prop so I use it (23P) year round. I would like to try that bravo prop too, but hard to spend that kind of coin. if I ever have to buy another prop it would likely be the bravo, but I sure would like to try one first. Thanks for all the research you have done and shared.

It is a shame we do not live closer. You could run my Bravo 24P FS. I think you would like it.

Well I had my first service done, checked throttle is 100%. No faults or issues. Took off the 24 fury and put on a new Bravo 1 FS 24”. No matter what I do, this engine will not rev!
Now the best I get is 5590 with the Bravo, 1 person in the boat, half tank of gas.
There is some issue with the 200’s I’m sure of it, please someone must know why these are having issues.

More likely that there is a problem with YOUR 200 *(or your setup). What I see above is that you did try a 22 and a 23 pitch prop, but those props really were not necessarily well suited to this type of fishing rig. 22P or 23P Tempest Plus would be a good choice (you probably would be wise to start at 22P).

Something else to consider: What fuel (octane and brand) are you running?

    Thank you Don,

I’m relying on your expertise and knowledge which is always appreciated. I am only concerned with my own motor/set up but I’ve had 2 other owners of 200’s contact me with the same issue, hence my comment about them in general.

I agree on the prop suitability but I did test a 23 Tempest Plus that topped out at 5600

I’m replicating set up specs of those on here with same hull and same prop, but I’m at least 600 rpm down compared to them.
As far as gas goes, I run 98 here in Australia, this is our premium ethanol free, same as I’ve used for the past 10 years, and with your cocktail mix.

The only change when this motor was fitted was the addition of the canister fuel filter inside the bilge, the inline engine filter is also still installed. Would say some restriction somewhere in the whole tank/filter/lines be a possible cause?

Maybe this is already been answered, but how are you measuring your RPMs? Do you have vessel view or are you looking at a analog gauge?

I’d be interested to see what results you got if you ran 87 octane. You could always run your tank to about empty and then just fill it to about a 1/4 full to see what happens.

All my data was from 87 ethanol free.
