3 -54 AH lithium Batteries on 36v 112lb thrust Ultrex

    Hey guys,

I'm looking into buying the Dakota lithium trolling motor batteries since they are priced right,.... Specifically three 54Ah to do the job. Anyone have experience with these batteries? Is 54 AH too small for tournemant fishing lakes in Northeast? I run my TM all day but conditions are not usually too bad.

I had 50aH from Relion for several years until I sold the boat. A buddy of mine bought it and he is still running them. They have not failed in any tournament for our club or when my son used in the college fishing circuit. There were some seriously windy days too. We even fish rivers.

The consensus on here is that if you fish lakes, you will not have a problem. It is only when you double up the conditions is when they can be drained. As an example if you river fish and are fighting wind AND strong current (or tidal currents) then they may not last. There are not too many of us deal with that scenario.

I have three 50A Ionics and a 112 Ultrex and haven't been able to get them below 60% during a long practice day in the wind.

I did search Dakota Lithiums and didn't find anything good or bad. Info was very limited, but the warranty is 11 years so its tough to not take a look at them

I'm running Dakota Lithium batteries and battery boxes in my kayaks. Currently have two 10aH Battery Boxes and two 23aH Lithium batteries. I haven't had a problem with them yet. I use the supplied Lithium chargers that Dakota sends with the batteries and they have performed great too. I've been running these for over a year now. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up the trolling motor batteries and may well do that in the near future as I'm upgrading the trolling motor on my little Ranger to either a 24v or 36v system in the next month.

I bought a set of the 54 amp hour Dakota Lithiums back in June. I have used them all season and have had no problems at all with them. One good thing about Dakota is that they supply the chargers with the batteries. In my case they were out of the 12 volt chargers they supply with each battery so they substituted a 36 volt 18 amp charger to charge all 3 batteries in series. I love it overall. In a 4 or 5 hour trip out on the lake the charger will run about 30 minutes after I plug it in and then shut off.

I have a Relion RB110HP that I have been using for 3 seasons now for my starting/house battery and I has performed flawlessly also.

We started carrying them and have been EXTREMELY happy with them. We previously carried Dakotas, and have had all sorts of nightmares with Dakota. Give us a call at: 316-313-4113 and we can answer any questions that you have.

Check out that 11 year warranty closely. Those 10 and 11 year warranties are usually of manufacture's defects and DO NOT cover normal use. Most Lithium batteries are 3 year free replacement and they're pro-rated after that.

    • Dakota Lithium offers a 11 year manufacturers defect warranty from the date of purchase [fine print available here]. The average lifespan of a Dakota Lithium Iron Phosphate battery is 2,000 recharge cycles, or roughly 5 – 10 years with regular use that is appropriate to what the battery is designed for (see the specifications of the battery). This warranty does not cover negligence or misuse of the battery or normal wear and tear. If it is deemed that the battery was used improperly, you will be subject to a $150 an hour repair charge plus parts and shipping.

I know a few guys who have had issues with 50ah and even 60ah batteries not being enough for a tournament day with a 112.....no real brand specific issues just sizing issues. From what I have been told new Ranger boats come standard with a lithium option of 60ah lithium's and they have a recall on the new 2020's to upgrade them to 80ah ones because they wont last a day.

Fished again yesterday 6 hours on troller pretty hard as it was a tough day . Wind and current again just not as bad as first day .. Didn’t recharge after last trip ,, after the second day I am at 59% . If I run these things down in one day I will be shocked !!

After some research I ended up ordering 65ah miller tech lithiums. My first set of lithium batteries, 24v set up (2-12v units) and I can't draw them down past 50%. Ontario lakes, no current, mix of wind from zero-very strong and these batteries just keep going. I have gone as long as 3 10hrs days of fishing in a row this past summer on one charge and the lowest these batteries saw was like 53% so I could have easly gone a 4th 10hrs day. Millertech recommends the minn kota pc charger which charges the batteries 100% everytime. The life cycle of these batteries is like 3500 charges, I only charge every other trip so the most I'm charging these batteries are 35-40 times a season. At this rate I'll never run out of charges. If I charge these batteries 100 times a season I'll get 35 years. I'm not to concerned about the numbers, I just plug the batteries in every other trip and use my ultrex all day with out worry. Even crazy windy days when I though man these batteries gotta be low, pushed LCD display 75% left! I'm convinced. To each their own, they are not cheap, however, there is a list of benefits, my 18-8 ranger with only 150hp pops up on plane like it has a 200 on the back, handles great feels like a feather 2x80lbs agms vs 2x20lbs lithiums.

    JTRACC,
Did you get your miller tech batteries in canada? I'm looking to get some lithium batteries but the selection in canada isn't as broad.
