Two yellow wires are Stator outputs in AC voltage. One wire to ground set on AC is approx 120 VAC Gray wire is approx 9 VDC the Red is Battery voltage in to the rectifier.

my tachometer fluctuates for no reason while running. My volt meter doesn't change and the motor doesn't change. Just trying to eliminate things. Any Ideas on what else to check?

Are you still running your VRO? If so unhook the 4 wire harness to the VRO pump and see if the tach stabilizes.

still running the VRO. How would this effect the tach. Tach will jump up a thousand or more stay there for a few seconds then go back to normal.

The gray wire on the 4 wire harness monitors tach pulses.

The VRO will run forever with the harness disconnected you WILL NOT get a no oil alarm with it disconnected however. This is only for testing purposes.

Barring a disagreement from Championman...the rectifier is toast. If you had given your model # I could have given you the part #.

is there a way on an omc motor to disconnect the rectifier and test the tach right off the stator to eliminate possibility of a bad tach? i did this with a suzuki years ago.

model # of my motor is j115plsnf. Is there any way you can check the rectifier with an ohm meter?
