    SD Cards

I found references to 32GB being the maximum card to use in a Solix 10 G2. I don't know the size of files though. I have a bunch of cards laying around but they are not 32GB. What is the minimum card size you would use?

The largest file that I have seen is the Humminbird Basemap for the Helix 9, 10, and 12 which was over 8 GB. Software updates could be the largest file you have to deal with. When you download unit software you see the file sizes.
If you are going to do a lot of RECORDings for Auto Chart computer software, you could possibly need a 32GB.

Mostly I use smaller size cards, but it really makes no difference for my use. Currently I am using 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB cards in units, but have smaller ones also that I may use for waypoint management.

Thank you. I went to the website and found the latest software update. The instructions say:

    You will need:
    • a formatted 32GB Class 10 or MMC/SD card

    and

    5. Once you open the unzipped file, copy and paste all of these files to the SD card you plan to update your unit with. You must have at least 960 MB of free space on this card.

If the file is only 960MB I wonder why they say to use a 32GB card?

Think what kind of mess it would cause if in one release they would say something like:
"You will need at minimum formatted 1 GB Class 10 MM/SD card with at least 960 MB free space or at maximum of formatted 32GB Class 10 MMC/SD card with at least 960MB of free space".
    Then in next release maybe:
"You will need at minimum formatted 4 GB Class 10 MM/SD card with at least 2460 MB free space or at maximum offormatted 32GB Class 10 MMC/SD card with at least 2460MB of free space"
    Then:
"You will need at minimum formatted 8 GB Class 10 MM/SD card with at least 7160 MB free space or at maximum of formatted 32GB Class 10 MMC/SD card with at least 7160MB of free space"

I bet people would be here asking do they need all those different sized cards to flash to SW when they have this or that sized card already with this and that amount of free space.
And anyway 32GB SD cards are so cheap and easy to get nowadays so everybody can get such card without problems...it might be different story when trying to get your hands on 1GB card...

I'm no IT specialist, but the 960MB space may be for added processing room during the update.

Looks like I misinterpreted the Solix specs. They say the G2 units use a standard SD card or a micro SD card. My interpretation was that you could use either. I was ready to transfer waypoints with a standard card. When I opened the access cover there are 2 micro slots.

I guess that means some units accommodate standard cards and others take micro?

Solix 10 is different (micro SD) than the 12 & 15 (SD). I think because of the vertcal size difference of the unit there was not room for the full size SD reader while using the same keyboard. Bob
Note: They can all use he micro but the 12 and 15 need the adapter.
