I have seen chatter about it. I havent used any cork handle rods in some time. I gots me a new Fenwick and it has cork on it. So is it worth the time and effort?
HAHA, I just realized I put this in bassboat topics.

it takes almost no time or effort so yes, I think it is worth it.
I use it on all new rods. Typically I fish the rod a bit to confirm I will keep it then put on a coat while the cork is nice and clean

Yes
I have a bottle I haven't opened yet. Those of you that use it, do you have any advice on the best way to apply it and do you just need one coat?
Mr. clean magic eraser on cork if it has been used to remove all of the dirt and grime. Let it dry fully overnight. I just use a small 1/2" paint brush to very LIGHTLY coat the cork, one coat only. I let it soak in for a minute and go back over the cork with a dry brush to make sure there are no runs or bubbles. This has worked for me. Just go easy on the u40, a little goes a long way.
Good stuff. The cork will not feel different once it dries, but it wont stain and discolor. Get a soft bristle 1/2 inch wide brush to apply, wife actually picked me up a new makeup brush for it and that is perfect. She just said it was for applying blush. One coat only, the cork will not absorb more after the first coat dries.
Great stuff. I did around 20 rods, and still have 1/2 bottle left. 1/2 of the rods are split grip, so that stretched it out a little more. Most say you can do around 15-20 rods a bottle....you can do more than that.
Tru Oil or other gunstock finish will do the same thing if you already have some around. I use an old T shirt to apply it.
Good old U-40 perm-gloss.Great stuff, and one can get a buzz when working with it.I use it to finish ice rods to try and cut down the weight, and works great on clean cork.
I just saw a video on U40 and the guy used a small foam brush to apply it. I've never applied it but think I have a couple custom rods that the handles don't get dirty so suspect the builder applies it

Definitely worth it

I use a $0.40 foam brush from Walmart to apply it to my rods. Definitely worth it in my opinion. It only needs one coat so it doesn't take much time.

Def worth it. I've been using it for years and my rods look good. There's another product I have now, "Kelly's Cork Renew." Does pretty much the same job at half the price. But the U40 last a loooooong time.

years ago we used lemon pledge. Worked great
How often does , you have to reply the cork with this U 40 sealer?
Minds was in the mail today. Look like I will be cleaning rod handles this week end.
I've been using U40 for around 10 years now and love it.
Some of my oldest most used rods cork still looks excellent.
