    Heading Sensor Question

I don't have one and losing my heading when on the trolling motor is driving me crazy. I am using Helix 12's G2N at both bow and the console. I made an appt to have the heading sensor installed for the bow unit. They are suggesting I have another installed for the console unit. This stuff baffles me and they could not explain clearly enough why the second one for the console unit would be helpful. For my fishing so far just the bow unit is a problem when the boat is barely moving. I have not had a problem at the console that I know of. Can someone explain the need for the second heading sensor. Thanks.

You are not loosing heading, you loose Course when GPS cannot calculate direction when at less than .6 mph.

Don't need a heading sensor for the console unit, but a GPS antenna at the transom is a good idea for the console unit so GPS and Sonar is at the same place. AS GRP is less cost than a AS GPS HS antenna.

Thanks Wayne. You just saved me $250 for an installed heading sensor.

I added the AS GPS HS for use with my Solix and love it. I hated how the chart was always "twitchy" when I was trolling using the COG for the heading. Now I use the actual Heading from the heading sensor and the chart is much more well behaved from 0 MPH up.
