Ok, I will check those tubes in the throat of the carbs. I have the carb rebuild kits sitting on the shelf in my garage and I have the Omc manual, debating on if I should just go ahead and re build the carbs?

Ok, I rebuilt and cleaned the carbs with omc kits per the omc manual including float adjustment (all of my float drops were set way too low) haven’t gotten a chance to test it yet! I’m hoping this fixes it! The only thing left to possibly change is the stator, timer base and rectifier/regulator 🤷🏿*♂️

Your omc manual explains how to test these items. If you do replace them go with all OE parts. CDI is junk. But if you must use CDI, use all CDI.

Generally speaking with that xp150 on my 89 stratos 179v, how fast should it go give or take?

I had a 189V Stratos with a 1991 Faststrike 175 and would run low 60's but that was a different beast. 18 foot 179V and a GT150 should see 55-60 depending on how it is loaded and set up. I would be happy with 57-58 loaded at WOT and 5500 rpm.

Ok, cool. I’m gonna try to take it for a test run this afternoon! Another question, do you think I should decarb it with some sea foam?

I never use seafoam. BRP engine tuner maybe 1 time a year and proper 2 cycle oil usage and prop motor/set up properly as to not lug it at low rpms which causes carbon deposits..

I gotcha, I was just curious, I have seen on a lot of forums where people recommend decarbing a engine so I figured I’d ask.

If it has never been done then I would do it.....and then once a year after that. Doesnt hurt. Just use the right additive/fogger recommended by OMC/BRP. Test drive it first and see how the carb kits did...dont want to do too many things at once.

And if you do decarb,,,follow OMC/BRP instructions..DONT do it on your nice concrete driveway,,,,,I know by experience why you shouldn't.

Well the carb rebuild didn’t help with the surging 🤦🏿*♂️ Is there a safety system that would be causing it to do it?

Any other ideas on what could be causing it? Rebuilt the carbs and it’s still doing it. It’s super aggravating because it starts and runs great up until it starts surging *♂️ Oh and it will also die out when trimmed Up trying to push it up onto the trailer.

When you rebuilt carbs, did you remove all orifices and clean passages/right size orifices in right holes/remove welch plugs for idle transition circuit and clean and install new welch plugs? Verify proper orifices? idle-34/mids-34/mains-58.5....early first year XP/GT 150's had a 1 3/8 carb. Check and see if they havent been swapped out. 1 3/8 stamped on the front lower right of the front of carb. Once we verify the fuel system, we can move on to other fun and exciting things,,,
