    Question What would you do?

Single axle trailer riding an 18 foot bass boat. Replaced axle about 5 years back due to minor wreck. Went with a good heavy duty one. All my spring shackles and pins appear tight, no play and working properly. Problem is they squeak.....not real bad but squeak, squeak as you back up to launch. Not brakes because don't have them. Would you or would you not lubricate them and if so with what? Minor problem but help and suggestions appreciated!

I have lubricated many a leaf spring. White Lithium is what I have found works the best.

Jack up each side of the frame to relax the springs and spray some lube in between the leaf springs.

If you still have the noise after the lube, replace the shackle bolts with wet bolts and grease them up.

You can try to use spray lube in the shackles bolts but grease is better for the long term.

    Good luck

Spray the shackles and bolts with Marvel Mystery Oil. You can even do the spring leafs also.

If its the shackles squeaking you can replace the bolts with wet bolts that will allow you to hit them with a grease gun every once in a while.

I replaced the spring bushings on my Bass cat trailer and completely silenced the squeaks.
