    Mercury 250 Pro XS - Fault 14

Looking for some advice. Getting an alarm showing Fault 14 "on engine oil tank - level low". I have confirmed the tank is full and it overflows when running at idle. Engine is getting oil but why the alarm... put a new sensor/switch in the on engine oil tank today and still get the alarm. Disconnected the battery for several minutes to see if it would reset... negative results. What to look at next???

Most likely need to replace the oil tank. It's usually the magnet / float in the tank that has failed.

Interesting didn't realize there was a magnet or float in the tank. The service manual isn't of much help with this issue...

This is the on engine tank not the tank in the boat

The engine reservoir has a magnet on the float, what Bryanmc57 posted is correct. Unless you added the optional float assembly and harness, you don't have a float in the remote tank (it, btw, does not have a magnet on the float).

I guess that explains why a jumper wire completes the circuit and prevents the alarm from sounding during my testing. I'll order a replacement tank today. I greatly appreciate your responses to my post.

Good info above- in about 99/100 cases it will be the tank that had the problem, so you're on the right track now.

Be sure to bleed air from the system (it's also wise to have an oil pump prime sequence done to make absolutely certain no air is trapped between the tank and the oil pump).
