This is quite unusual... but it's certainly possible. Need to get the engine in to an Authorized Mercury Dealer for inspection/repair.

Seen it a couple times. Whoever rigged it likely dropped the cowling on it and cracked it. I had one injest water from this and hydro lock it
How bad was the motor damaged? Mine looks like it may have a little water in the oil. I take it in to have it looked at on the 4th.
I was literally running 40 mph when it happened. I was very happy with the 175 pro xs fs on my 189 trx until this happened though.
