    Garmin GT30 Mounting recommendation

I'm mounting dual transducers on my boat, with a Y cable back to the head unit.

One transducer is shoot-thru-hull (GT8) for fast speeds and the other is a transom mounted skimmer (GT30) with 2D, Down View & Side View for slow speeds.

Where should I mount the skimmer transducer on the transom? See attached photos:

I'd say in ceneter left of the temp sensor.....

Also before you mount take a look at the Sternmate or Sternsaver to prevent more holes in your transom......

In the center, as you’re suggesting, was my thinking as well. Thanks for the recommendation on the Stern mate/saver.

The transducer is pretty long, so I just need to be sure that the motor won’t trim down enough to hit it.

Jackplate mount would be preferred.....if you mount in center make sure when motor is tucked you have plenty of clearance.....you can also turn the bracket and mount it up under your hull step as well

So if I don't have enough motor clearance, you're suggesting this location? (see attached)

Will a Stern Saver work well mounted like this? I've only seen them mounted vertically.

I'll say you wont have room so, probably better to go underneath like your pic....i dont see why the SternSaver wouldnt work under there....it uses epoxy to hold to boat.....

Garmin also makes a step mount vs using the plastic mount....there are several ways you can mount....depends on how much one wants to spend......

The motor will hit the transducer if I install it on the transom, in front of the motor or under the step, in the center.

I'd say scooting it over cause on your last choice, it has a better chance of bracket breaking.

What if you mounted it to the right of the temp sensor?? Would just need to keep motor trimmed up some to see out the left side. Just a thought....

Can you take a pic of the whole rear??

IMG_0720.jpgIMG_0715.jpg I recommend using the step mount, never a problem. This has been installed since 2016, without issues.

I ordered one of these before checking the dimensions. The bracket is 8.9" long. The step is only 4 1/2".

WTR, its a tough call, but IMO, if you plan on using the plastic bracket, i'd mount it UP under the setback somewhere inline with the temp sensor. If you are using the Sternsaver, check out the mini. Its a smaller foot print, may or may not fit.
