    Prop choice for ranger 518

Repowering with 2020 pro xs 200hp 4 stroke. Looking for recommendations for prop selection to begin with. I currently only own a 26 tempest plus and a 25 trophy plus. I'm thinking both will be over propped for this motor but im certainly unsure. Seems like many are running fury props with the new xs...... what do you all think? 24p 3 blade tempest to start ? Fury ? Go 4 blade trophy or fury??? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I currently run my boat pretty heavy. 4 group 31 agm batteries on top of normal gear load and typically 30 gallons of fuel. I have always run the props mentioned on a 200hp efi and have gotten good performance from both. I also have a 6 inch Bob's hydro JP.

I'm thinking a 25p tempest plus would do well.

I am only speculating but if 20-21’ with 250’s have been propped with 23 fury then I would think you wouldn’t want more than that to start with a 19’ w/200. Maybe you can ask a dealer what Ranger is shipping the current year 518’s with the 200 pro car?

Good call. I agree - maybe a dealer will have some insight.

That's what I'm hoping! I'd love to hear that the trophy and tempest are the top recommendation !

    2021 Ranger Z518's powered by the new 200HP Mercury V-8 4 strokes are coming with 14 x 22P Fury 3 blade's.

If you haven't bought a prop yet I would see if you could borrow a 23 Fury from someone, they should be pretty easy to find if you have a lot of late model bass boats in your area with the new Merc's.

This would give you an idea of props to use. I have a 518vx that I just repowered with a 200 Pro xs and the shop put a 24p Fury on it. I also had a 6" jack plate added so I could mount my Talons. I had a 31 agm for cranking and 3 27 lead batteries for the tm and with all the additional weight added to the back of the boat, it sat pretty low in the water. I replaced the tm batteries with lithium to shave some weight off. Anyway, back to the prop. If my jp is in any position other than all the way down, I blow out coming onto plane. I want to try a 23p to see if that helps with the holeshot.

I am running a 22 Fury.....65mph full load 2 people....69 alone. Eventually want to try a 23 Tempest Plus to see if I can break 70.
As far as the Fury...don't think you beat the holeshot ane midrange.

I'm running the 23 tempest plus and it's great. Seeing the same numbers as that fury. ... 65 loaded with 2 people . And 67 alone. But only spinning 5700 rpm. - linear demand is 100%

I have a 99 Comanche 518vs with a 200 fitch and it came with a 13.5 x25 renegade 4 blade and I spun the prop hub last weekend. Any suggestions on if I should replace the prop hub or find a different prop if so what’s seems to be the best option for all around? Thanks

If you haven't done this yet, I would post on the props page. lots of knowledgeable people there.
    Also, I run a Tempest Plus 24 on my 2014 518. Opti 200 pro XS. 65 w/2 people, 68 by myself. 5600 rpm. did hit 70.3 once.

from all the reading i have done,it seems you cant compare props with what a 2 stroke is using.differences in lower unit shape creates less slip, therefore a lesser pitch prop is needed.

Posters on this thread are running different boats, different engines, and different years of boats and engines. The responses are all intended as helpful, but it would make more sense if responses stayed on track with the original poster’s setup. And if you have a different rig that you want propping help with, please create a new thread for that discussion.

I would start looking to repower. When the Ficht goes, that's it. Parts are near impossible to come by and will likely be expensive if you do find them and then you have to find someone willing to work on it. I had a Ficht on my 518 and it left me stranded on the lake.
