    Mercury 40EFI Intermittent Shutdown

    Hey Guys,

I have a 2008 Mercury 40EFI 3cyl serial 1C071377 that will intermittently shut down and turn back on in an instant (see video link below). This seems to happen most commonly at 3/4 to full throttle (5850 RPM) though occasionally happens at idle too. When it does do this I get a startup beep, momentarily lose all information on Vessel View and the troll control will not work again until I shut down and restart. I have only had a fault code once and it was for TPS adapt A which only tells me the engine did not realize the position of the throttle when it restarted itself. All fuel filters are new and the VST is clean. I have checked all electrical connections for corrosion with no sign anywhere leading me to believe the ECM may be the issue. Hoping someone else has seen this issue before and can confirm my belief or steer me in the right direction.

    Thanks!

Suspect that you're having an intermittent open or short in the keyswitch or lanyard (or their harnesses). Easiest method to confirm that is to connect a remote keyswitch harness direct to the engine (bypassing the one in the tiller handle) to see if the problem persists.
