    spot lock TM

wanting to upgrade to a spot lock TM. Too many issues on ultrex that I read about concern me on investment. I do run humminbirds that I could link, but not main concern. Main concern is spot lock.

    Looking at Lowrance and Garmin

    thoughts/reviews on each?

I've got the Lowrance Ghost. I had it since they came out. It is an awesome TM. I have had ZERO problems with it. Anchor mode is legit, (better than ultrex, imo) and super quiet and powerful. I don't have any experience with the Garmin so I won't comment on them. There is a lot of customizable features on the Ghost that I like(programmable buttons, switch foot pedal to either side if you're used to a motor guide, etc...…) With the brushless motors I'm sure you can't go wrong with either. Good luck in your search.

Of course they do. It's simply a question of how many.
There was a time that I didn't fish but I cannot remember it.

I have a 24/80 Ultrex and have put that think through hell and back twice. Mechanically it’s as good of condition as the day I bought it. Noise level seems to be as new to me also. Looks, well that’s a different story, it’s been used a plenty like a powerpole but on the front deck and as a brake heading into a rip rap bank not to mention as a bumper on docks. I will say this though, If you can buy one without a built in transducer by all means do so and strap on a good transducer to the bottom of it. The 2d sonar is fine, works pretty good, though I can’t seem to reduce the sensitivity down enough. The down imaging is not so good, it’s always to hot. But I do have a Lowrance graph linked to it so I’m not going to bash it to hard.

My 2 month old Ultrex needed the circuit board replaced and I'm told that's a fairly common repair.

The best advice you can give an ultrex owner is to purchase A spare foot pedal sensor and learn how to swap it out because it will go out and it will probably be at 7pm on a Friday night.

I have the Garmin and have had zero issues with it. It's very quiet, powerful and does a great job on anchor lock. The remote is a great unit too, and makes things much more fun for me.
