    Cowling Cracked

So I cracked my cowling while backing the boat into the garage. The cracks aren't terrible, more aesthetic than anything. Anyone ever try to fix a cracked cowling at home? The outboard is a Mercury 2006 50HP 2 stroke ELPTO if it makes any difference. I read some where that some cowlings are made of fiberglass, but this one looks like plastic. Any information is greatly appreciated!

    Hello dheiss,
Yes I have repaired several. You are correct.. most of the cowls are glass. I dug out the cracks, ( made larger ), filled with bondo, sanded and repainted. Works fine and if you have any skill, it can look like new.

Thanks Robin, once I confirm what material the cowling is I will look into repairing it myself. Thank you!
