    New stator price

Mechanic said I need a new stator, 2 cylinders are barely firing out of 6.
Does any one know the price of a new one?
    1996 150 FastStrike.
    Thanks

If all the other cylinders are firing good, as in perfect, I would rethink the need of a new stator. Only use BRP parts, Boats.net. Marine Engine .com, often have good prices.

You have two charge coils in the stator, one for each bank of cylinders. If you are getting good spark on one or more cylinders on each side, that would indicate both charge coils are good. Besides expensive, it's a pain in the butt to change stators on this motor. That's my 2 cents worth.

We don't really know what his motor problem is other than weak spark on two cylinders. I've not had any experience with flywheel magnets, on these motors, causing a weak spark on two cylinders. Do you think that could be a possibility?

It will be in Chapter 3 of your service manual.

if memory serves the flywheel magnets are glued in place. Always been a weak spot.

I found the resistance test in chapter 7 OMC manual, my seloc was chapter 4. I will be trying tomorrow, and will let you know the results.

Note I wish I saw the sticky at the top to down load, before I bought the Seloc.......... the Search function of the PDF is great.

    Thank you!

The resistance test on the power coil and charge coil are an easy first step to checking the stator. I found that the OMC stator may have different specs than the CDI stator....so its good to know which stator is on your motor.

Do you know which 2 cylinders have weak spark? If both are on same ignition coil, I’d test that ignition coil next.

I thought this was not recommended? Will a CDI stator work okay with OMC power pack? I can see the CDI power pack being an issue since they redesigned it with different components but the stator is just coils putting out an expected voltage.

So did I, but I don't think this was recommended, just some info, and on top of that, with the info he gave, he doesn't need a stator. JMHO
