    How fast should a 60hp four-stroke go?

I have a 2019 60hp four-stroke mercury on my 17 foot Lowe Skorpion (aluminum). Top speed is 33-34.5 mph. It has a spitfire prop.
Is this in the right range? Ive seen some threads where people have 18 foot boats that go 37mph+ with a 60hp motor. Just want to make sure I'm getting all the power I can.

    Thanks!

Your speed is about right 33-34 MPH. A 18 foot boat with a 60 hp 4 stroke would not hit 37 unless it was really windy

Your about right, I'm sure you could get a few more on top but you'll loose down low and can't bring extra fuel or tackle. Speed is always over stated.

I believe you are getting pretty much the right speed. I have a 60hp mercury 4 stroke on a 16 ft fiberglass stick steering boat and with two people and an ice chest and tackle I'm running 35-36.

    I used to have a 50HP Yamaha 4 stroke on a G3 Pro 175. 17 1/2' Tin boat. 32MPH was top speed.

I'd be more than happy with that speed with a 60hp on that boat.

    I had a 60 Evinrude on a 16' Fisher Marine Marsh Hawk 3V years ago and I think I ran 33-34 tops.

My Stratos 176 would hit 37 GPS with just me and a light load. About 30 with two.

Also would be curious hiw they are measuring the speed. My 2020 175txw tracker with 75hp gauge shows 42mph but GPS shows 38 or 39mph top on glass water

My 18' 3"/88" beam Fisher Pro Hawk 180 with a 75 Merc is 38.7 with me, full tank, and fishing gear on very light chop. 34.5mph with 3, full gas, and gear on glass....all bone stock and via GPS back in the spring prior to me totally renovating it. (Added a pretty heavy deck extension, paint, carpet, rewire, etc etc etc)

    I had a 2004 G3 1756, with a deck extension, added a rod locker, had 4 batteries, a 2004 Yamaha 50 HP 4 stroke carbed. 32mph by GPS (on phone apps).
I then traded that engine for a 1985 Yamaha 2 stroke 25 HP, 22mph (on graphs and phone apps). Went to a 25hp to fish hp restricted lakes.
A side note - holeshot was about the same.

Mine jumps from nearly accurate at 38ish to 43-44 on the speedo when I give it that last bit of trim for top speed. It'll do 40 on a good day and mine is probably a good bit heavier up front than most boats like mine with the Ultrex on the front. Surprisingly it runs the same speed with my dad in the boat with me and he's over 200. Powertech nrs3 has it propped perfect.

My 17" Triton TC17 Tin with a 60HP Merc 4 stroke will do 34-35+ trimmed just right.

My Fisher 1600 with a 40 hp Merc 2-stroke tops out at a blazing 27 mph with a full fishing load and a partner. By myself, I get a better hole shot and 29 mph. The boat max hp is a 50 but I’d like to put a 60 when the time comes just to have a little more power and better hole shot. It’s a great fishing boat for short runs and skinny water.

Lil mo, for a better hole shot, look at an
    Older two stroke.
