    115hp Optimax Gear Oil

The manual states 22.5 oz capacity for the lower unit gear oil. I have filled it till the oil starts to come out of the top vent hole and then plug the vent hole, remove the fill tube and quickly plug the fill hole. I use a fresh gasket and screw each season. I have noticed the last to seasons that I am only getting maybe 17-18 oz to drain out. Is it normal for some oil consumption? I don't see any leaks on the ground our oil slick on the water. Also, there does not appear to be any water in the oil. Just want to make sure all is OK, should I expect more oil to drain out than 18 oz?

Run the motor in gear for a while to warm up the gear oil. Might not get more out but it drains faster.
