Question 2017 Z520C and 250 Pro XS setup

I've done a bit of research on the board and I still had a few questions about setting up this rig properly.

I recently purchased the boat in Missouri and brought her down to South Florida where it's regularly 91 degrees and humid.

    Current Setup:

10" atlas hydraulic JP @ 11 on the gauge (have not yet confirmed actual prop to pad @ 11, but 11 seems to run best)
150hrs on the motor with brand new plugs gapped at .044
Fury4 25P. Mint with all vent holes open
Tackle in middle locker, with heaviest tackle toward the rear and lightest tackle toward the front
Max speed 1 person: 70MPH @ 5550 RPMs. Planes out good at about 3800 RPMs out of the hole.
Max speed 2 people and livewells full: 68MPH @ 5350 RPMs. Planes out terribly at about the same 3800 RPMs.

I would like to see closer to 4K RPMs out of the hole with quicker holeshot
I would like to see 5800+ RPMs at WOT
I would like to see 72MPH tournament loaded and 1-2 MPH more by myself

Can any of this be accomplished with a different prop? 24P Fury4? 25P Bravo 1 XS?

    Thanks!

You will need to go to a lower pitch Fury 4 or a Fury 3 25 and send the prop to Mark Croxton to have it B&B

Same Rig, but w/ 8" Atlas.

    Fury 3-25. Add 3 -5/16" vent holes.

Really helps hole shot and maintains top end of the 3 blade.

I also suggest adding the extra vent holes.

The fury 4 already has like 8 vent holes... all open. Do I need more than 8? I know the regular fury 3 blade can benefit from more holes.

I have the exact boat and the exact numbers you're looking for with my Fury3 25, I do get a little bit of blowout cresting getting on plane, so I plan to have some extra holes drilled in it. That is with a manual JP 2.5 PTP, just hit 71.4 tourney load with my dad last weekend fuel completely full and livewells about 3/4, i believe my RPMs were around 5700 so i still had more in it. 1/2 tank of fuel with no water in the wells I hit 74mph same set up.

You will never need more PVS holes than that...

I don’t have the same boat as you but it is a 520VX that I put a 250 proxs on. The 25p fury 4 is my favorite prop by far. Not the fastest prop I’ve ran solo with light load but it is the fastest prop I’ve ran loaded. I’m at 2 1/4 below pad and all holes open and loaded I’m getting 70 mph gps at 5800/5900 and running solo and light I’m seeing 72ish at 6000/6100. Loaded it comes out of the hole at around 3800 3 to 4 seconds to plane out but comes up pretty flat without the nose looking at the sky.

The 25P Fury 3 blade with 3 extra 5/16" vent holes is tough to beat on a 2 stroke 250 Pro XS

I have the same boat and use this set up. Best all around prop for me. Hit 74.5 MPH with it last fall with just myself and half tank of gas.. Have Power Poles and Lithium TM batteries

If you have a hotfoot, check it and make sure you’re reaching 100% full throttle.

I already checked this. It's opening all the way. I'm basically running this thing in a steamy jungle 90% of the time.

I’d drop 1” or 1.5” of pitch if you go with a bravo xs. Get that merc spinning 5850rpms full throttle. With any of these props the 520c likes 2.5”PTP.

What kind of RPM's are you seeing on the 25P Bravo compared to the 24P Fury?

during the heat and humidity, 5800 or a little more... cooler temps this weekend, turned 5900 and some change with the bravo. both props run similar rpm wise

Matt that 2 stoke needs to run at 6000 rpms WOT for best overall performance. The speed is going to be what ever it is once you get there. Don't discount trying a trued up 25P Tempest +. As with all speed/prop reports, you need the WOT and rpms to run the data thru the Mercury calculator. (Your gear ratio is 1.75)

    https://www.mercuryracing.com/prop-slip-calculator

Ideal slip percentages range between 4-8%. It's very hard to get a heavy Ranger propped to achieve much < than 10-12%.

I tried a brand new Fury4 24P yesterday and it was a night and day difference between that and the same prop in 25P. The 24P had instant holeshot, better top-end (was on too small of a lake to really open her up yet), and the prop actually revs up now when loading on the trailer. The 25P could not break free to load on the trailer, holeshot was terrible, and I could not break 5600 rpms.

The whole setup seems much happier with this 24P Fury4! I will report WOT speeds and rpm when I get a chance. Might not be until next week.

As a reminder, I am running this thing in South Florida's steamy swamps and I'd expect more available HP in a cooler, drier climate.
