25-06 is one of the most under rated rounds there are. It was a favorite of mine when I would go to Colorado elk hunting. It will shoot almost as flat as a 300 win mag and if you do your job it will lay down elk and Mule deer in their tracks.
There’s no use being stupid if you’re not willing to show it off.

I have a number of 22-250s the first of which is a 700ADL I bought new in 1970 has been shot so much It has been rebarreled twice in that time. Barrels have lasted anywhere from 3000 to 4600 rounds. My latest is a custom built bench gun that was built by a famous benchrest gunsmith on a Brazilian Mauser action with a house built trigger assembly and a 1.25" OD barrel. I picked this up from an estate and found out the owner had passed before he got a chance to shoot it. At 600 yards groups are unbelievable but I haven't yet had the opportunity to shoot it farther than that but I will soon.

In the real world 4000 fps is possible with this caliber but it usually takes a 35 to 40 grain slug to get there and they are too light and fragile to be both accurate and effective at much of a range. Advertised velocities on factory ammo is a joke. Best accuracy is usually achieved at much less anyway. Most prefer a 52 or 53 grain slug of one type or other at around 3500 to 3650 but even that isn't gospel.

Congratulations. Nice coat on that animal. The 22-250 is a great round, but I kind of like some of the older less popular rounds. I used a 55 gr. in my Swift at what should have been around 3750-3800 fps.

The first deer rifle my brother got when he left the Air Force was a 25-06 with thumbhole stock. My all-time favorite round is the 7x57mm Mauser. Used 139/140 gr. for deer and Speer 100 gr. hollowpoints for smaller game. It is a gem.

Same here on some of the older rounds. My Swift had a preference for the 52 grain Sierra BTHP at just short of 3900 fps on my Oehler. Just picked up another 38-55 and still shoot an original 45-150 and cast my own slugs for as many calibers as I can.

Funny though. The 22-250 is rapidly becoming one of the older rounds.
