    Marine filler putty?

I need some type of filler to cover a recessed seat base plate before I recarpet. I need to fill a spot 6"×6" roughly 1/8" deep. The stuff I removed was like bondo but not nearly as hard. Any suggestions?

Chances are it wasn't bondo. Most use cab o cil mixed with resin, it's brittle stuff but works great for setting wood, filling in gaps and covering up the seat base. cab o cil, resin and catalyst. Get some 2 part epoxy from the hardware store, or amazon. It will be easier for you. https://www.fibreglast.com/category/Fillers

Short strand reinforced fiber glass filler is what you are looking for. Most auto parts stores carry the bondo or evercoat brands, there are much better brands out there but will work for what you are doing. You can also thin it with a little resin to make it easier to work with.
