    461vs need jack plate?

I just bought a super clean 461 vs, first Ranger Boat I've ever owned. Boat rides fantastic and very happy with it. My question is how do you the Ranger Boats react with motor height position? Recently sold my old boat with a 10-inch Jack Plate and thought about putting a 4-inch Atlas on the Ranger. Any thoughts?

Had a '97 462 and repowered the 150 Ficht with a 175 carbed Johnson. To get the hole shot right, put a 4 inch Rapid Jack (manual) jack plate on it. Good choice, I could trim up while coming up on plane, once I got the motor to keel setting correct. Sold it about a month ago.

You can get by with a 4” but a 6” will perform better.

Have a 6” hydro Detwiler on my 519SVS and it performs great as mentioned in the prior post.

Owned a 461vs with a 175 EFI Merc with no jackplate. Never felt the need for it as the overall performance was excellent.

I had a 98, no jackplate and no issues. I do remember my 175 Fucht was mounted about 1.5in above the transom. I miss fishing out of that boat, super nimble.

    I have a 96 461 with a Johnson 150 FS. Never felt I needed a jackplate. Still gets out like a champ.
