2005 Stratos 201 trailer backed up fine for a year. I bled the brakes and now I can not back the boat up without trailer brakes engaging. Tow vehicle is the same 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. All plugs are the same and look to be in working order and I checked all fuses in the truck and switched out to all new ones.
Yes I know I can use a C clamp or socket to get the trailer to back up, but would rather not have to do that if possible. Thoughts???
Guessing you already know you need a 5 wire plug for surge brakes?
Yes have had a 5 wire from the beginning.
The blue wire on the 5 way plug is connected to the reverse lights on the tow vehicle. Once in reverse the blue wire becomes hot and sends power to a solenoid in the tongue where the actuator is located. When engaged the solenoid activates a plunger that prevents the brakes from engaging when the tow vehicle is in reverse....
I would start my troubleshooting buy verifying the truck side of the plug (blue wire) is hot when the vehicle is in reverse. If good then inspect all connections from the boat plug to the actuator (blue wire).
back up lights work ok? bad solenoid?

I would use a jumper wire and put one end on frame of truck and other end on trailer underside of the tongue. If it works then the ground has break.
