    Talon Bracket Position Question

On the aluminum jackplate brackets, has anyone ever flipped around the first elbow piece that attaches to the actual jackplate? Most installations, and the instructions have the slotted tube looking portion further away from the stern, which is what I did. But I have the arm adjustment as close as I can get, yet the flag and talon is still about 5 inches out. This is on a 10" manual slidemaster jackplate. I think if I flipped the elbow around so the tube is closer to the stern, it would move that weight in a little as well as reduce some holeshot drag. I have heard about this idea but never actually seen it done. Figured I'd throw it out here as opposed to calling minn kota, which would likely be a big waste of time. Thanks
