    2002 Ranger 205vs top seed!

    I recently just purchased a 2002 Ranger 205vs and it’s only running about 56mph with a 225 Yamaha OX66 V-max.
Just replace the spark plugs, fuel filter, and water separator. Before I did all that it was only getting up to 51mph. Any idea what I can do to get the top speed up a little?? The boat comes out of the hole no problem. Wide open throttle is getting up to a little under 6,000 rpm’s. I feel like the boat should run in the mid 60’s from what I’ve been researching. Boat is not loaded down at all. Light tackle, half a tank of fuel. It’s got a 3 blade prop I’ll check tomorrow to see exactly which one it is. The boat does not have a jack plate I know that would probably help out some. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

74mph one time in winter. 72mph if I hang in the long enough, but typically 68-69 mph.

If I could get it to around 65 I would be happy. 56 with one person just isn’t right

I'd start with a jack plate. Manual is fine but hydraulic is way nicer but more $. I would recommend a size but mine came with a 12", and I know that probably ain't right.

First thing make sure the motor is 100% is the tach accurate? Slowing down over time is either prop going flat or boat gaining weight. Props will lose cup with use over time the blades flatten out. Have you weighted the boat? Heard of foam getting soaked and once it starts it only keeps going down hill. Running light and losing speed something funky is going on.

I owned a 2003 025VS with the same Yamaha motor. That boat could do 65-67. I did not have a jackplate.
