    Oct. 2

Officially the last day of being foster parents! I've probably turned down 40 referrals this year, and truly don't feel the call any more. This has been my ministry for 15 years, and I've had roughly 155 or so boys living here. It seems like the bad kids (DJJ) I used to take in are now the norm behavior wise. I'm 63, most of these fellas think I'm too old to protect myself, so it's time to retire from foster care.
I still have contact with a few boys that are now family men working real jobs! We're sorta relieved that we don't have a house full this year, my wife would explode trying to be teacher at home. We still have the 2 that we adopted, one is a Sophomore playing football and the older one is a Senior working 25-28 hours a week at Kroger. We're still a few years away from the 'empty nest syndrome'....

Thank you for what you've done for those 155 over the years.

God bless you and your wife, Herb, for the work you've done in positively influencing the lives of so many young men over the years...

Your 'retirement' has been well earned, Sir.

You have done great things for many of them I hope you see some good come from all of them through the years to come. But people make their own choices so don't sweat it if you see some in a negative light.

im not as good as you but have been thinking of that possibility, however I do coach youth athletics and it is rewarding as well as the kids and parents are happy to have us, very minimal attitude issues and if you played anything in the past I'm sure there is an Opportunity for you to keep having a positive impact on others. Plus it's fun to compete again.

I think you've done much more than your share. Enjoy the peace and thanks for what you've done! I never could do that.
