AC plug for the battery charger in AVX series

Just took delivery of my 1880 last week. I’m not digging the cord for the battery charger just hanging out in the battery compartment.
Has anyone installed a plug top side that is in a dry location that is easy to get to. I’m thinking a good location would be next to the drivers console area. I just ordered the NOCO gcp1.

Never heard of an issue with the cord in it's current location, just plug it in to the holder and all is well.

I’m used to having easy access on my Skeeter. I’ll post some pictures after the install.

I’m putting mine at the console. The entire panel next to the drivers seat comes off pretty easy. Great access to install the plug.
I’ve seen several installed in the splash well. Looks good there!

I do no recommend the Minn Kota plug. It's a sloppy fit depending on the charger plug you have and not to mention, only thing holding the plug into place is this tiny ass plastic pin. It's just a shitty design IMO. I highly recommend the NOCO plug. So far, no problems with mine. It's easy to cut a hole through the splash well with a hole saw.

Never thought about this. At the console would be cool but I don’t see a need for putting it in the rear. If I’m back there anyway, I’ll just lift the lid and plug it in.

Easy to get to even with the cover on the boat. One of the first things I added to my AVX1980 after the Evinrude foot throttle.

Not sure why you'll want it at the console. Maybe so less likely to unplug the charger before you drive off?

It might be a pain in the ass to run that cord from the bilge to console. Thats assuming the power cord will even reach there without having to extended it by either cutting or an extension cord. For example, the Dual Pro charger is only 3'.

Seems more trouble than it's worth.

The reason I added the plug is for convenience and safety. The edges of the lids are sharp on my boat. That rear lid will not stand up by itself due to no strut and also the motor rigging tube pushes down on it. I mean I could prop the lid open with something but if that slips, its going to pinch and may cut the cord.

Install complete. Very easy job. Rigging tube made it super easy to
run the extra length of cord. 20922421-9BC4-4E31-B3A6-0917029130A1.jpegC6A9C322-08A3-41EE-BF11-F2E1B1053FFC.jpeg

If anyone is interested in the details shoot me a PM.

Im not sure what boat you have. This is on an 1880. 6 screws hold that panel on. Then lift up on the aft end and slide it back. The throttle cables limit how far you can go.

    Thanks Mark

I kept dropping that short cord into the bilge almost every time. Then I had to climb back into the boat to retrieve it. I thought there has to be a better way. Now I can use the outlet for my garage door opener and drop the cord down into the boat. Much nicer!

    Next up is blinker trim!

I put my charger plug in its holder. When I back my boat into the garage I have the extension cord hanging right over bilge. Open lid and plug up.
Later when I go out I can see the charger lights are green, un plug, put into holder on inside of lid and close it. Never have to get in the boat. No cutting, running or rigging.
    I have a 2080.

This is so simple a cave man could do it. Vexus does a great job with rigging tubes. This would have been an all day job in an older glass boat. The newer glass boats all have remote plugs. I’m sure Vexus will have them on the AVX line eventually.
