Hey, I thought only Jerry was old enough to know about points.

I do remember my old man talking about points. It was usually preceded by a not so family friendly expletive!

Guy down the street left his switch on and had a fire under the hood a few year back. Looked like the VR fried/melted top of it and burnt the wiring harness and probably the stator.....not sure if the switch being on caused it but I wouldnt/dont like to do it. I got the long block....He totaled the boat thru insurance. My 9.9 and 5 have points......they run like a top.

Sometimes you get a little pay back for all the PITA ?'s. Yep they did have points in the older motors, used to set them with a match book cover. Maybe the reason I started smoking and quit when they did away with them.

I had a points and condenser ignition system in my 1984 Stihl 028 Wood Boss that I inherited from my Grandfather. I upgraded to an ignition chip last year and that damned saw runs like a raped ape.
