    175 pro xs 4S

A friend of mine is looking to purchase a used lower unit to cone, already coned, or sportmaster for the 175 PRO XS 4S ser: 2B776227. Trying to figure out what models/styles will bolt up and work on this motor without issues. Thanks.

4.8" 1.85 ratio V6/V8 Gearcase is what it will need. As far as "bolting up"... most of the V6/V8 20" gearcases would physically install.

Before your friend makes any changes- encourage him to read through the Warranty and EXCLUSIONS section of his Owner's Manual.

But it would have to be off of a 4 stroke correct? Verado, Pro XS, or “R” motor? Or would a 3.0L sportmaster / torque master work? Would a torque master off of a 4 stroke work? Looking to make an informed purchase, not a trial and error purchase.

You cannot use a 3L Gearcase (from either the 2-stroke line OR the 150 Fourstroke).

As stated, the gearcase would have to originate from one of the V6/V8 Fourstrokes (with the CMS). While a G3-TM might bolt up, the gear ratio will be too high, and you'll have a heck of a time propping it.

And... once modified, any failures would be on his dime (due to modification of the product).
