    jigs- flat eye VS standard

    is there any benefit and what is the though behind the flat eye in a jig

    None with a jig. Now if you make chatterbaits with a split ring between the hook and blade, the flat eye is a must.

    Vertical eye seem to come through grass a little better where the horizontal seems to get through wood and rocks with less hangups

    Hook up percentage is much higher with a horizontal eye.

    Interesting! I've never noticed (read: paid any attention to) this. Any thoughts on why that's the case?

    I've always tended toward vertical eye just because it seems they come through grass better like Moneyshot said.

    There's less tendancy for a horizontal eye to roll on it's side when you set the hook. Only vertical eye jig I use is a swim jig.
