When those first come out it was stated that it come through the mouth of a bass better when setting the hook and also slid over wood more easily.

I think they come through cover better than the straight eye jigs. I use flat eye hooks in all my jigs

Something about the line tie point being in the same location at all times. I use flateye hooks on almost all of my jigs except swimming.

I don’t think the flat eye or regular eye makes any difference. I think the leg angle is more important.

28-30*, 60*, or 90* leg hooks play into center balance, weedless function, rate of fall, action on the fall, etc... The eye direction don't change anything in my opinion. Although I do prefer a regular line tie.

Wouldn't the regular eye being in line go through the weeds better than the flat eye?

I am basing this on tube jig heads and shaky head jigs, but I would think the same would apply for a skirted jig. With the same leg angle, a flat eye has a slightly lower profile and therefore comes over rocks a little better. But .... because a straight eye is a little bit higher it will make the tail of the bait bounce a little more when pulling it up against a rock, and shaking it.

Hooks have different length legs as well... So what you are saying does not always apply.
