I do, 6” atlas on my 17’ 188. Haven’t pushed it to the max yet because I haven’t install a water pressure gauge.

More importantly, what prop are you gonna run? You'll need a cupped LaserII or an X7. I ran a 6" JP on a Lowe 18HP, which has a pad bottom. Gained 2mph and a ton of "Squirrel". I run my X7 19" at hole 3 and it runs like it's on rails. Spend the money on the X7. Remember, there is NO lifting surface on the 188s, so don't expect much.

being that the 188 does not have a "pad" (unless you're talking a 188P).......why bother?....you will not like the results.

Ran a 6" manual on mine and I did like the difference it made in handling and staying on pad at slower speeds. I will say I left it alone where it was set when I picked it up because the pluses outweighed me moving it 1/4" at a time to find the most top end. I was maybe 1 mph on top end but I know I left some on the table.
