my evinrude 200 hp got hot when i got stuck in some crazy hydrilla shut it down when the alarm went off and got the weeds off the lower unit started it up and ran good at up to 2000 rpm but wouldnt rev any more and started chugging. Does anyone know what might be wrong with it?

Weeds may have gotting in the water pump . Pull lower unit and check .
That is slow mode so no damage is done to the motor ,flush out the motor and check to make sure thermostats are clean and water passages are open . Might be safe to check the water pump also and screens on lower end to make sure no weeds are in there ..
