Would love to hear someone's experience with a Monty's modified engine on a Champ. Everything I have read and heard about Monty's has been positive. If I had much deeper pockets, I probably would consider having them work on my Intruder. But remember, you are probably chasing about 5 mph. Thats a lot of cash for a few mph's. Another problem I can fathom, is that if something does go south with the engine, local certified techs most likely won't touch it. Championman always said...once it's not stock, good luck with reliability and service.

What mods are you wanting to do?
There’s bolt on stuff like reeds and tuners that won’t affect reliability and machine work on ports that can.

And more importantly what’s your goal? Once you take the first step down the little more path it gets long and expensive.

I'm not real sure I want to do anything yet......thats why I was hoping somebody already has and can offer some feedback.
It's obviously a fishin' boat but its always nice to go a lil' faster

There’s a few of us who’ve done just about everything you can do in the never ending quest for a little more.

Let’s start with what you’re running now. Some motors respond well to mods some not so much. Example a 150 ProV Yamaha can easily turn into a 220. A XR6 merc can’t be monkeyed with for any sort of improvement.

Let's start out right. Monty only plays with OMC motors nothing else. Great guy.

Now what you got for a motor?

    And what is your hull?

    What are your expectations?

And how deep is your wallet?

    Speed is weight and horsepower.
10 ponies will equal about 1 mph.
100 lbs will equal about the same.

    That’s your path.

I don’t know diddle about that motor. They generally fall into one of two types. It’s either a grunt motor that needs a prop that makes it work hard or it’s a motor that needs to get rpms and a prop that lets it spin.

But I do know a 202. If a Steve worked 26 tempest wasn’t the golden ticket I would be taking a hard look at my load and review setup.

What did it run with the 26 tempest?
What is the boat telling you? Is it running flat? Or is it light and loose?

What graph do you have on the bow with the ultrex? The extra weight will affect the setup
