    VX with gel coat finish

Has anyone seen a VX 20 or 21 with the more traditional finish yet?

No, have you? Are you referring to a boat not painted? I was unaware they were building hulls with Gel Coat finish vs paint.

My guess a lot of people don't like the paint. Not in the market, but I prefer the gel coat, if Vexus was on a hypothetical list I had the paint only would have it off the list.

I think folks overthink the paint thing. I know accidents can happen but unless the paint is crap it should hold up to lots of abuse. My truck’s paint survives the ranch and those elements. If you beat the crap out of your stuff it may be an issue but that will tear up a flake boat too. I still need to look at a Vexus but it seems to be a damn nice rig.

Nice! Will there be options for using more colors or are they going to stick with single colors for the hull and top?

Gel coat is just an option (~$3500 less) vs the Hard Case Paint. Variation of all the standard colors are available in either application.

I think the traditional Gelcoat looks so much better. The paint was OK but damn, hard to beat that shine.

I'm an old guy, so I prefer the bling of conventional gelcoat.

    Howdy,

I have yet to see a 10 year old painted boat, take Lund for example, that didn't look its age. However, I have seen many 10-20 year old glass boats that still look new. It would take a hell of a lot to convince me otherwise.

    Take care,

    Ruddiger

Thats usually because the aluminum boats crowd doesn’t give a crap about how the boat looks. You can easily repaint or buff out any paint to look like new. I have friends with older lunds that look like new. Garage kept and wiped down after every trip.
Gel coat is easier to wet sand and polish as needed. Once you blow through the gel coat Though it’s a very costly process to spray new gel. Six of one, half dozen the other. Take your pick!

Having said that. Nothing better than a metal flake glass boat period!

I have had 10-15 year old cars that look great as long as they are taken care of so paint can work. I just have not laid my hands on a painted one to really see what it is all about. The gel boat does look nice though with a little more shine and sparkle.

Wax a lund twice a year, store it in the garage and they will look sharp just as long as gelcoat.

I would take the paint just to get away from possibility of gel coat cracking.
