    Rattling Baits

When should one use a Chrome/blue Trap vs a Chrome/black back?

Maybe I’m wrong but I stopped buying chrome black back. Chrome blue back always seemed to catch more fish for me.

98% of the time, it makes no difference what color the back is.
"The man of system is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it…He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chessboard.” Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments

Doesn't matter to me on which to throw. I always consider the side color.

I agree, the top color is not that important but if it’s makes you have more confidence in that lure, it is a good thing.

I don’t know if that even matters my best Trap was chrome blue but most of the chrome is gone and it’s basically bone and crushes them. That’s one I’ll be pissed when I loose it.

Stock up on the bone colored ones.

I tell ya what I do from time to time. Buy the rattle trap blanks at like Jann’s Netcraft and just throw some split rings and hooks on them and don’t paint them. They are pretty much bone color and work really well!

That is what my Spots all look like. More important is weight, different brands run different depths/speed.

Different brands really have differences. Best to go out some day and do some testing. I used to have 3 rattlebait rods rigged up in the fall. Identical set ups except for line size.10,15,20#. I let the water depth dictate which to use. I would throw the black back trap in clear water. Up here, the chrome baits seem to attract all the toothy fish.
