    prop hub

Triton 19xs 2014 2b776205 mercury four stroke pro xs prop has a 840389K06 solid hub in my prop. Would or should I consider a 8M0101601 hub incase I hit something?

That is the hub I would run if I had a fat shaft.... But I don't think it will help on impact. Just a softer shift.

So what is the big difference between the solid hub (840389K06) and the SSR hub (8M0101601) ?

If you have prop rattle or shift banging use the SSR hub which has rubber molded on one end to absorb some of the shock. The regular solid hub has rubber strips glued to the sides of the hub to stop movement. SSR is harder to change than the regular HD hub and costs $20 more.

It really gets stuck in the prop. Takes a lot to get it out.

I see Merc is telling you to put 2+4 lube in the hub now before driving the rubber in with a block of 2x4. They say it makes it easier to remove the hub later
