Verado oil recommendation
Hi
What would be the best choice of oil for a '08 Verado 300hp #1B717200?
Synthetic Blend 4-Stroke (25W-40) or
Synthetic Blend 4-Stroke (25W-50)
Thanks

Reason I ask is that local dealer says 25W50 for ALL Verados and 25W40 for ordinary 4-strokes.
But as I understand the 25W50 is for Verados before 2007 models (and Racing 4-strokes)
https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/...ne-lubricants/
To make it even more confusing, The User Manual says:
Engine Oil Recommendations
Mercury Verado NMMA FC‑W certified synthetic blend 25W‑50
multi‑viscosity 4‑Stroke Outboard Oil is recommended for
general, all‑temperature use. As an optional choice, Mercury or
Quicksilver NMMA FC‑W certified synthetic 25W‑40
multi‑viscosity 4‑Stroke Outboard Oil may be used.

I would be using what has been used through the life of the engine as long as its one of the above.

What I'd use if it were mine.

Oil recommendations changed when the Mercury Oils Line changed.
25w40 Synthetic Blend is the recommended lubricant. You can ALSO use the Racing 25w50 Synthetic Blend (which was specifically designed for the Verado engine lineup).
In other words, either is acceptable.
