Looking at a used rig that has a225 Yamaha HPDI- avoid this motor??

So the trick to be would to warm it up while in gear so that all six cylinders get oil and a warm up time.

This. My 05 250PDI always run great when I warm it up in gear.

From my research <-- That's my disclaimer.

When the big block HPDI motors idle in neutral, they idle on 4 cylinders. I believe it is #2 and #5 that don't fire. Apparently when these motors crap out, it's one of those cylinders. The piston doesn't heat up proportionally with the block and other cylinders. If you idle for 5-7 minutes in ........

Myself and 2 friends all bought 05 225 HPDI new. I did every service necessary religiously as did my buddies. All of them blew before 500 hrs. Mine lasted the longest at something like 475 hrs. There was an early recall on the oil pump as a couple cylinders ran too lean if I recall correctly. Just my personal knowledge of them.

I bailed -too risky -too much info out there to think I will not blow up a HPDI . Have a ox66 200 hp on current boat -heard they are WAY better -going to stick with old reliable !

Ox66 efi are great motors.
