Safe Kerr Boat ramps near Franklinton

Where is a safe boat ramp close to Franklinton NC? I have heard on this site going to the Nut Bush Rec Ramp near Henderson is not safe. Thanking you in advance.

i read on BBC in a previous post there were break-ins to vehicles and you need to be carrying if you use that ramp. Just made me a bit cautious. I retired just this past year and moved to NC from Maryland. I typically fish Falls and Gaston, but want to try Kerr. I haven't fished Kerr in 30 years.

The new Nutbush ramp is by far the nicest ramp on the lake for ramps, parking, rest rooms, piers, etc and is patrolled by the park rangers .Never heard of anything happening at this ramp like i have Flemingtown or most other mid-lake ramps. To many shady looking characters cruise Flemingtown for me and the parking lot needs some work.will use it as a last resort.

Coming in to the lake on Satterwhite road from Henderson you will turn left at the store that sells everything. Once you cross the low bridge the entrance will be on your right near the top of the hill. It is clearly marked. It is very nice. Reckon it is called "Little Nutbush" ramp.

The New Nutbush ramp is very safe. Most of the time I drive up the night before a tournament and just sleep in my truck. Never had any problems. If you want to fish the upper end.....Occeneechee is a good, safe place too. Same thing.....never had any trouble there either.

After 32 years of using Flemingtown ramp and never having a problem, I guess I've been lucky. I guess I am one of the shady looking characters that cruise the ramp. I ride my dogs around it everyday. Corps drag it once a month, seems like a nice place to me! Just saying

The only bad reports i remember were about county line. Over a 30 day period. That stopped now I believe.

Did they build a better ramp because I was thinking there was a ramp already in that area ?

They built a new one several years ago. It is very nice with lots of paved parking, good docks and ramps, and a nice restroom. Just go straight past the guard house and the parking lot loops around to the ramp.

The old one is still there if you want to go wading! Actually, I'm not sure but they may have done some work on it too...

You can view the whole lake or that boat ramp online from a satelite. Several websites or apps to pick from. You would be able to see everything as it is without having to go there.

MY OPINION: I have lived and fished on kerr for over 15 years and have had 0 issues with the ramps I use. I normally use Hibernia and Nutbush. No issues. Might be different for other people. I wouldn't recommend Flemingtown, I have seen a lot of weird stuff going on before from illegal tackle sales to drugs/drinking. A lot of people use the shoreline to the left of the ramp to hangout and swim, which brings the risk of break-ins. Always use State Park Ramps if you are worried for the fact that they are typically patrolled. If you live closer to Flemingtown and want an alternate, use County Line. My 2 cents.

To me Flemingtown and Island Creek make me the most uneasy and thats where I have always heard stories of misconduct. I feel very safe with Nutbush park and Hibernia.
