    Important lessons

    I learned two important things today:
    1. Don't wear Crocs when launching your kayak on a boat ramp that is covered in algae;
    2. Put your wallet and cell phone in the waterproof box BEFORE you step onto the aforementioned slippery ass boat ramp.

    Been there, done that. Rubber boots in January on Sam Rayburn.
    Soaked, 14 years old, guided trip, boy was my Dad hot as we had to driver 45 minutes back and 45 minutes to the ramp for the second time.
    He was a good Dad though and Tex was a fun guide in 1970.

    We knew that the ramp had some algae on it and I was commenting to my buddy that he should be careful since he also had on Crocs and they can be very slippery under the best of circumstances. Right about that time his feet went out from under him and he landed in the water. We were sharing a good laugh about his minor misfortune when I went sliding down the ramp and into the water. Thank goodness we were the only ones at Wacissa Springs this morning. Nothing was injured but our pride and we opted to avoid the boat ramp when we took out.

    I use the Keen water sandal and it seems to have a good grip.
    Water gets cold I go to a large knee high hunting boot.
    No slip ups yet.
    But it is a challenge every time and your story is a good reminder.
    Steep ones are a real challenge.
    Be safe

    A good friend of mine was wearing Crocs one day. He was walking across a wet asphalt parking lot and his feet went out from under him. Broke his shoulder blade.
